Appleby (Isle of Man) LLC

About Us:

Appleby is one of the world’s leading offshore law firms. The Group has offices in the key offshore jurisdictions of Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Mauritius, and Seychelles, as well as a presence in the international financial centres of Hong Kong and Shanghai.

With over 470 people, including lawyers and professional specialists, across the Group,

Appleby delivers sophisticated, specialised services, primarily in the areas of Corporate, Dispute Resolution, Private Client and Trusts, Regulatory and Property. The Group advises public and private companies, financial institutions, and high net worth individuals, working with these clients and their advisers to achieve practical solutions, whether in a single location or across multiple jurisdictions.

What we do:

Our shipping client base is broad, ranging from high net worth individuals owning super yachts to large internationally-operating shipping enterprises. We frequently act for lenders, both commercial banks and export credit agencies,  that have a significant portfolio of ship finance.

Our clients are involved in a full range of shipping and shipping-related service industries, including a range of activities from inception (ordering new construction) through the life of the vessel (ship owning and operating enterprises of all descriptions). As such, we have expertise on a diverse range of shipping related activities across our network of offshore jurisdictions. These jurisdictions, and in particular Bermuda, BVI, Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Isle of Man and Jersey, are popular domiciles for registering and financing a wide variety of commercial vessels as well as pleasure and commercially-operated super yachts.

We regularly provide advice on the registration of ships in Bermuda, BVI, Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Isle of Man, the sale and acquisition of ships and the financing of those transactions, and the registration and financing of private mega-yachts and commercial vessels during construction. We also prepare, review and provide opinions on loan and credit facility, and security documentation.

The Shipowners’ Club

The Shipowners’ Club

About Us:

The Shipowners’ Club has in-depth knowledge of the risks and liabilities you face when operating your fleet, borne from over 160 years of experience in providing Protection and Indemnity (P&I) cover, Legal Costs Cover and associated insurances.

As market leader, we insure over 32,000 small and specialist vessels across the globe. Every year, 95% of our Members choose to stay with us, and our top 25 Members hold an average of 24 years’ continuous entry; testament to our ability to serve Members’ best interests and respond to changing needs.

We have a wide spread of Members across a range of vessel types, operating sectors and geographical areas. This diversification delivers stability, allowing us to enjoy a strong balance sheet and an A rating from Standard & Poor’s.

Referred to as a P&I Club, Shipowners’ is one of thirteen Clubs which make up the International Group, insuring over 90% of the world’s tonnage.

What we do:

Liability insurance for yacht owners, operators and managers.

For over 25 years we have supported the yacht market with dedicated and specialist underwriters who work closely alongside leading brokers.

We are proud to say that we insure the liability risks of a significant section of the luxury yacht market worldwide.

Our specialist insurance policy was developed specifically for the yacht owning community. Traditionally our insurance is based upon our Club Rules, but as the language used is often better suited to the commercial vessels we insure, we crafted a plain language policy to meet the unique requirements of the yacht market. It is one of the most comprehensive yacht liability policies available.

There is no limitation on size, area of navigation or number of crew and, as we understand the needs of owners, captains and managers, we can tailor our insurance to meet specific needs. We provide protection for many different eventualities for liability risks associated with crew, guests, water sports, racing, contracts, pollution, war risks (P&I) and legal costs cover.
